Overview: Aquila's Fitness Coordinator assists in overseeing fitness center programs, assists members in safe and effective exercise and performs a wide range of technical exercise and administrative duties in health/fitness center. Location: Alexandria, VA (fully in-person required) Work Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM; Tuesday and Thursday, 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM Pay Rate: The pay rate is $27.88/hour, 40 hours a week. Responsibilities: - To make recommendations and assist in the formulation of fitness center policies and plans
- To supervise and monitor exercise participants, perform exercise assessments, and exercise prescription
- To teach group fitness movement classes
- Conduct personal fitness training sessions with members of fitness center
- To assist with selection and supervision of group fitness instructor
- Supervise exercise areas
- Educate members concerning safe exercise techniques
- Perform exercise assessments and prescribe exercise upon American College of Sports Medicine guidelines
- Conduct safe and effective assessments including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility and body composition analysis; evaluate and interpret data and identify high risk participants and special populations
- Aid members - spotting and equipment usage
- Explain all equipment
- Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of all equipment
- Adhere to departmental and club policies and procedures
- Adhere to client’s policies and procedures
- Attend staff meetings
- Assist in wellness and fitness promotions and external events
- Perform daily administrative duties
- Any other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications: - Active, NCCA accredited National Fitness Certification - (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, NCSF, NCCPT or AFAA) (required)
- Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health promotion (preferred)
- Must be a U.S. citizen as this is a federal agency which will require security clearance
- Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent
- 1+ year experience performing fitness work in a professional setting, preferably in a supervisory role
