Position Summary
The Fitter is responsible for reading blueprints, laying out structural steel components, and fitting/welding assemblies according to specifications for large commercial building projects. This position plays a critical role in ensuring quality fabrication and accurate assembly prior to final welding and shipment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details
- Measure, mark, and lay out structural steel components
- Fit beams, columns, plates, and other steel assemblies to specifications
- Use tape measures, squares, levels, and fabrication tools accurately
- Operate grinders, torches, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment safely
- Tack weld components together prior to final welding
- Verify dimensions and ensure assemblies meet quality standards
- Work closely with welders, supervisors, and production teams to meet deadlines
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements
