Fitter/Welder

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Fitter/Welder to support barge and marine vessel repair projects. This role requires a skilled tradesperson who can perform both fitting and welding duties with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will hold an AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification (or an equivalent certification approved for work on inspected U.S. Coast Guard vessels) and have experience working in a shipyard or heavy industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Fit, burn, and fabricate materials used in barge and boat repair.
• Perform stick (SMAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding in all positions with minimal supervision.
• Fit materials for topside repairs, quick dock projects, boats, and other special projects.
• Measure, lay out, and mark materials accurately for cutting and fabrication.
• Produce welds that meet Certified Welder quality standards.
• Read and interpret work instructions, drawings, and measurements.
• Assist with general barge repair activities as needed.
• Follow all company safety policies and actively promote a safe work environment.
• Work under the direction of a leadperson while completing assigned tasks independently.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification required, or equivalent certification approved for welding on inspected U.S. Coast Guard vessels.
• Experience fitting and welding in a marine, shipyard, or heavy industrial environment.
• Proficient in stick (SMAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding.
• Strong layout, measuring, burning, and fabrication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Work Environment

• Work is performed on barges in a drydock environment.
• Must be comfortable working in confined spaces, underneath barges, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Position requires standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, lifting, and working in physically demanding conditions throughout the shift
