Make a direct impact keeping school buses safe and reliable

Based in Gary, IN, you’ll be the go-to technician handling everything from routine service to full powertrain overhauls on gasoline and diesel buses. Your day could start with preventive maintenance, move into diagnosing a tricky drivability issue, and wrap up with an HVAC repair or DOT inspection—while keeping meticulous records of time and materials.

Schedule & Pay

  • Mon–Friday, 1st or 2nd shift
  • $28–$38 per hour

What you’ll work on

  • Perform routine and advanced service on diesel- and gasoline-powered buses—from basic maintenance and minor fixes to full vehicle service.
  • Diagnose mechanical concerns and execute a preventive maintenance program.
  • Complete major and minor engine and transmission overhauls.
  • Repair and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel and ignition systems, HVAC units, and wheelchair lift mechanisms.
  • Service and support vehicle air-conditioning systems.
  • Inspect and repair school buses to meet DOT standards.
  • Document all work, tracking hours and materials used.

What you bring

  • Hands-on experience with medium-duty buses; International-brand truck/bus experience preferred.
  • Your own professional tool set.
  • Working knowledge of pupil transportation codes and laws, including IDOT inspections.
  • CDL Class B with air brake endorsement preferred.
  • A/C certification preferred.
  • Clear, professional communication skills with customers and teammates.
  • Calm under pressure with a focus on deadlines and outstanding service.
  • Self-starter who sees assignments through to completion.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Consistent, on-time attendance.
  • Ability to speak and listen clearly on the telephone.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
