Overview:

Under direct supervision, the Fleet Equipment Specialist I supports the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of Discount Tire/America’s Tire mobile service vans. This role oversees fleet maintenance and telematics systems, including Samsara and Fleetio, to ensure accurate data tracking, preventive maintenance execution, and regulatory compliance. The Fleet Equipment Specialist also provides remote technical support for mobile van equipment, diagnosing issues and coordinating repairs to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fleet Systems & Data Management
    • Manage and maintain Samsara (telematics) and Fleetio (maintenance) systems to ensure accurate reporting, data integrity, and compliance.
    • Monitor telematics data to identify potential mechanical issues, safety risks, and opportunities to improve fleet performance.
  • Maintenance Oversight & Compliance
    • Review and approve or deny preventive maintenance and unscheduled repair transactions within Fleetio.
    • Review daily pre-trip, post-trip, and monthly inspection reports to ensure safety, compliance, and operational readiness.
    • Maintain accurate service records and ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Diagnostics & Technical Support
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues affecting mobile vans and service equipment.
    • Provide remote troubleshooting support via phone or digital communication to resolve equipment issues and reduce service disruptions.
  • Coordination & Equipment Readiness
    • Coordinate with the Fleet Equipment Manager regarding parts procurement, repair prioritization, and scheduling of vehicle downtime.
    • Ensure mobile service equipment and tools are properly maintained, stocked, and ready for field operations.
    • Travel occasionally to support on-site van repairs, upgrades, or special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of 1 years’ experience with fleet maintenance and administration or mobile van support.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques is required.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with mobile maintenance operations preferred.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools preferred.
  • Experience with fleet management and telematics systems (e.g., Samsara, Fleetio) preferred.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Technical proficiency with fleet management software and telematics dashboards.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy parts and work in various weather conditions.

 

Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience is required.

 

Professional certifications are a plus. ASE certifications or equivalent and technical certification in automotive mechanics preferred.

Work Days

Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.

 

Work Hours

Normal work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional hours may be necessary.
