$23.00 - $25.00 per hour, based on experience

About the Role

The Field Supervisor monitors driver performance, supports safe and reliable service, investigates accidents and incidents, and assists with compliance reporting and operational support. This role works closely with drivers, management, school district partners, and customers to reinforce safety expectations, resolve service concerns, and ensure routes operate efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor driver pre-trip and post-trip inspections and address equipment concerns such as lights, clips, strobes, brakes, and other safety-related items.

  • Perform driver road checks, including observations of bus stop timing, safe driving practices, speed, railroad crossings, and overall route performance.

  • Observe drivers for work readiness, including uniform, safety vest, appearance, and adherence to company expectations.

  • Conduct IPP Safety contacts with drivers and correct safety violations in the field.

  • Investigate incidents and accidents by gathering facts, documenting the scene, taking photos, and completing required reports.

  • Attend client conferences, parent meetings, and bus coordinator meetings related to driver performance or service concerns.

  • Help maintain calm, fact-based discussions with customers, drivers, and client representatives while recommending corrective action to management.

  • Complete compliance-related activities, including motor vehicle records, background checks, non-compliance lists, route signs, GAP applications, accident reports, and safety data entry into DMO or other systems.

  • Supervise daily loading and unloading at schools.

  • Coordinate transportation support for special events, including driver parking, parent parking, loading, and unloading.

  • Monitor on-time performance and follow up on service issues as needed.

  • Dispatch as needed to support daily operations.

  • Assist management with driver interviews and other operational needs.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience with hourly employees preferred.

  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to interact professionally with drivers, employees, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials, and the general public.

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English.

  • Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, as needed.

  • Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality required.

  • Must have a working vehicle or reliable transportation to travel within the service area as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

The Field Supervisor must be able to move throughout the office, bus yard, parking areas, schools, and other company or client locations. This role requires the ability to use standard office equipment, access filing systems and cabinets, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in writing.

This position may require the ability to:

  • Drive a company or personal vehicle for driver observations, school district meetings, and other company-related purposes.

  • Use a full range of hearing, speech, and vision.

  • Use manual dexterity for handling paperwork and completing reports.

  • Stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, and bend at the knee, hip, or waist during inspections.

  • Stand for extended periods while performing inspections, school supervision, and platform training.

  • Work in wet, cold, or hot outdoor conditions.

  • Write clear, coherent, and legible reports.
