UPMC is looking for a full-time Fleet Mechanic I located in Harrisburg.
This position works daylight, Monday-Friday, 7 am - 3 pm. Weekends off!
Purpose:
The Fleet Mechanic I will perform minor component repair or replacement and assist with the removal, replacement, and repair of major components.
Responsibilities:
- Perform the following repairs or replacements: Preventive Maintenance Service, Front End/Tandem Axle alignments, Minor electrical system repairs.
- Identify defects in driveline, brake, electrical, cab, frame, suspension, steering, air, and related systems
- Pickup and delivery of vehicles
- Maintain work area appearance and safety
- Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
- Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
- Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
- Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
- A Mechanic's tool set up to ½ inch drive; typically including sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other tools for various repair and maintenance jobs on vehicles.
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related work experience.
- Completion of a technical school/vocational school preferred.
- Practical experience in a vocational/technical school setting may count towards 2-year requirement.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Drivers LicensePA State Safety Inspection Class 7 License required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire.PA State Emissions Inspection License required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire.
