Description
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Fleet Mechanic in Portland, Oregon. This is a hands-on position working on a diverse range of vehicles and equipment, from light-duty vehicles to heavy-duty commercial units.
The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in automotive, fleet, diesel, or commercial vehicle repair and is comfortable independently diagnosing problems and completing common mechanical repairs. You do not need to be a master technician or have experience with every type of equipment that comes through the shop, but this is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with enough practical experience to contribute quickly while continuing to expand their skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair light-duty through heavy-duty vehicles and commercial equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems and determine appropriate repairs
- Perform maintenance and repairs on vehicle systems including:
- Brakes
- Steering and suspension
- Engines
- Transmissions
- Clutches
- Wheel bearings
- Electrical systems
- Other mechanical and drivetrain components
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues
- Perform preventive maintenance and identify developing mechanical concerns before they lead to larger repairs
- Complete assigned repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards for quality and safety
- Verify completed work and ensure vehicles are ready to return to service
- Complete work orders and maintain clear, accurate repair documentation
- Communicate repair findings, equipment concerns, and job status with team members and management
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Properly use and maintain tools and shop equipment
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Work independently while asking questions or seeking technical support when appropriate
- Assist with additional shop and fleet maintenance responsibilities as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience as an automotive, fleet, diesel, or commercial vehicle technician
- Hands-on experience performing mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Ability to independently diagnose and complete common mechanical repairs
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems
- Working knowledge of vehicle systems including brakes, steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, bearings, and electrical components
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to accurately document completed work and repair information
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned repair work efficiently
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to ask questions and seek assistance when encountering unfamiliar equipment or repairs
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Commitment to following shop safety and PPE requirements

Work Environment
- Full-time, onsite position in Portland, Oregon
- Professional fleet and commercial vehicle repair environment
- Work on a variety of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
- Hands-on position involving diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and mechanical repairs
- Combination of independent repair work and team collaboration
- Variety of assignments rather than working exclusively on one vehicle type or system
- Safety-focused environment requiring proper PPE and shop procedures
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work around vehicles for extended periods
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment
- Ability to perform physically active mechanical repair and maintenance work throughout the shift
- Comfortable working underneath, around, and inside vehicles and commercial equipment
- Ability to safely lift and maneuver automotive parts, tools, and equipment as required
Compensation & Benefits
- $31.00 – $39.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
