Job Title: FLEET MECHANIC
EXEMPT: NO LOCATION: SA/IE/ RIV/ SAC/Chino
HOURS: 8:00am - 5:00pm
DEPARTMENT: Fleet DAYS: Monday-Friday
SUMMARY: The Fleet Mechanic will inspect, maintain, and repair a variety of company vehicles and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong diagnostic abilities, hands-on mechanical experience, and a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Perform repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, and differentials, including fuel, ignition, electrical, and cooling systems; power transmissions; universal joints; hydraulic units; steering mechanisms; wheel alignments; and emissions control systems
- Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, adjust, and install components; perform routine preventative maintenance on automobiles, trucks, trailers, and related equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on trucks and construction equipment
- Inspect and repair vehicles to ensure compliance with emissions standards
- Perform minor arc and gas welding repairs as needed
- Change tires and balance wheels
- Install and maintain electrical components, including lighting systems, warning lights, and starting/charging systems
- Repair vehicle body and chassis components using hand and power tools; install and repair power take-off equipment
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines at all times
- Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Replace and adjust headlights; install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers
- Report unsafe work conditions or practices to a supervisor immediately
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform field service calls as needed to keep fleet vehicles and equipment operational
Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience in automotive and/or truck repair, or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of gas and arc welding
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of modern automotive and heavy equipment maintenance methods and procedures
- Ability to safely and effectively use standard and specialized automotive repair tools and equipment
- Knowledge of lubricants and their proper application
- Ability to diagnose and repair engine and mechanical system issues
- Ability to use power tools and specialized equipment skillfully
- Ability to maintain accurate records related to work performed
- Ability to operate motor vehicles safely and effectively
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in learning new techniques and technologies
- Working knowledge of heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, excavators, skid steers)
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including awkward positions and lifting heavy objects
- Valid Class "C" California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Must provide own tools
- English required; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
- Ability and willingness to travel to other company locations to support maintenance and repair needs
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects (up to 50-75 lbs regularly, occasionally more)
- Ability to work in physically demanding positions, including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Visual acuity to inspect equipment, read gauges, and perform detailed mechanical work
- Ability to tolerate exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and fumes
- Ability to respond to emergency repairs and perform work under time constraints
Work Environment:
- Combination of shop work and outdoor field service at landscaping job sites and company yards
- Regular exposure to weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and sun
- Frequent contact with dirt, mud, grass, debris, oil, grease, and chemicals (fuel, lubricants, etc.)
- Work performed around landscaping and heavy equipment such as mowers, trucks, trailers, skid steers, and other machinery
- May require travel between multiple yard locations and job sites
- Fast-paced environment with changing priorities, especially during peak landscaping seasons
