Our client, a Av Manufacturing company, is looking for a Fleet Support Engineer for their Foster City, CA location.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for real-time escalations across interior and exterior systems, including doors and closures.
  • Diagnose and resolve door and closure faults, isolating mechanical and physical root causes from control-side issues, and validate repairs through functional cycle and fit testing.
  • Conduct root cause analysis that combines physical inspection with log and diagnostic data review to resolve recurring closure, fitment, and cosmetic-to-functional failures.
  • Perform and validate closure calibration, measurement, and component bring-up procedures following mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Lead investigations into systemic body and closure issues and drive interim and permanent corrective actions, including retrofit and service-bulletin rollout across the fleet.
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting guides and SOPs for technicians covering closure, body, glazing, lighting, and cabin repairs, ensuring consistent verification and documentation.
  • Distinguish wiring and connector faults from component failures across lighting, wiper, mirror, and door-electrical systems using schematics and pinouts.
  • Own exterior and interior lighting escalations end-to-end, distinguishing lamp-level faults from assembly or wiring-harness issues and addressing any electrical or thermal safety concerns appropriately.
  • Analyze fleet and ticket data to identify body, closure, and lighting reliability trends and drive closed-loop design and quality improvements back to engineering.
  • Coordinate incident-driven structural and cosmetic repairs with external vendors while minimizing vehicle downtime.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of relevant experience in automotive, transportation, or autonomous vehicles, with a focus on body, closures/doors, interior/exterior trim, or vehicle quality.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical closure systems (latches, strikers, hinges, seals) and body/exterior components (panels, fascia, glazing, lighting).
  • Ability to perform gap & flush and fit-and-finish measurements and interpret tolerance specifications.
  • Ability to comprehend schematics, electrical diagrams, and connector end views/pinouts to isolate wiring vs. component faults on door-electrical and exterior-lighting systems.
  • Experience with debugging Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) issues and basic CAN/log review.
  • Embraces a holistic problem-solving approach, driving high-level functional issues down to component-level root cause.
  • A proactive self-starter who can build strong relationships and communicate efficiently and effectively across various teams and in real-time service operation settings
  • Experience with electromechanical door/closure systems and actuator calibration.
  • Experience diagnosing automotive lighting systems (LED/DRL/signal lamps, lamp drivers, and harness-vs-component faults) and software-controlled or animated exterior lighting.
  • Experience with software-driven service/calibration tooling and component bring-up/firmware deployment.
  • Experience with electric vehicle technology.
  • Experience with remotely supporting vehicle troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with body-repair/refinish processes and vendor coordination (body shop, paint, vinyl wrap).
  • Experience with Linux & Python-based programming systems for fleet-level data processing.
