About the Role
This is a fully onsite role based at our Reading, PA facility. Reading serves as a regional distribution hub, running a busy fleet that delivers specialty chemicals & ingredients to customers across the surrounding region every day. We need a Transportation & Fleet Manager who owns regional transportation and logistics execution and keeps that operation safe, compliant, and on schedule.
You will be on the floor and in the yard, close to the drivers and the trucks. You own the daily execution: vehicles maintained and ready, drivers qualified and compliant, and deliveries out the door and across the region on time.
What You'll Own
Fleet and Maintenance
Manage the day-to-day operation of the Reading fleet, including vehicles, equipment, and assigned drivers
Run a preventive maintenance program that keeps trucks ready to roll and downtime low
Track vehicle condition, mileage, and repair history, and coordinate maintenance and repairs with service providers
Manage fleet costs, from fuel and maintenance to parts and outside vendors
Regional Transportation and Logistics Execution
Own outbound transportation and delivery execution across the regional service area, from route planning to final delivery
Direct daily dispatch, routing, and vehicle assignments to hit service and cost targets across regional lanes
Optimize multi-stop routing and vehicle utilization to improve on-time delivery and cost per stop
Coordinate the company fleet with LTL, dedicated, and outside carriers to flex with regional demand and peak volume
Solve the day-to-day problems that keep trucks moving: breakdowns, driver coverage, and schedule changes
Track on-time delivery and other regional service metrics and act on what the numbers show
Work closely with the distribution center and customer service to keep product flowing
DOT and Compliance
Keep the operation fully DOT compliant, including hours of service, driver qualification files, CDL and hazmat endorsements, and inspection records
Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation for DOT and FMCSA reviews
Ensure hazardous materials are transported safely and in line with 49 CFR and PHMSA requirements
Enforce logbook, ELD, and vehicle inspection standards every day
Safety
Set the standard for safety on site and make sure every driver gets home the same way they left
Lead driver safety, accident prevention, and post-incident root cause and corrective action
Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and hazmat safety requirements
Serve as the site contact for safety audits, inspections, and driver training
Driver Leadership
Supervise, coach, and support the driver team day to day
Set clear expectations and hold drivers accountable to safety and performance standards
Handle scheduling, coverage, and driver performance conversations
Help hire, onboard, and retain strong drivers
