Position Overview
If you enjoy building, improving, and customizing vehicles, this is a role where your work will make an immediate impact. The Fleet Upfit Technician is responsible for upfitting, maintaining, and improving ARI's fleet of pickup trucks and trailers. From installing specialized equipment and electrical accessories to performing preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs, this position helps ensure our fleet is safe, reliable, and ready to support field operations throughout the western United States.

Working closely with the Fleet Operations Coordinator and Field Service Director, the Fleet Upfit Technician plays a key role in preparing new fleet vehicles for service while supporting the ongoing maintenance and continuous improvement of ARI's fleet. Success in this role is built on quality workmanship, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
What a Typical Week Looks Like
No two days are exactly alike, but your work will generally be focused in the following areas:

40% | Fleet Upfitting
Build and prepare new fleet vehicles for service by installing specialized equipment, electrical accessories, hydraulic components, storage systems, and other custom vehicle enhancements.

30% | Fleet Maintenance
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and mechanical repairs to keep ARI's fleet operating safely, efficiently, and ready for the field.

20% | Electrical & Hydraulic Systems
Install, troubleshoot, and repair vehicle electrical, lighting, battery, and hydraulic systems that support specialized fleet equipment.

10% | Diagnostics & Continuous Improvement
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues while identifying opportunities to improve the safety, reliability, and functionality of ARI's fleet.
Schedule:
  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm.
  • Additional hours, overtime, and occasional weekend work may be required based on fleet needs and business demands.
Work Location
  • This position is currently based out of ARI's satellite shop facility in South Eugene. Due to evolving operational needs and facility requirements, the primary work location may change in the future but will remain within the greater Eugene/Springfield area.
Compensation
  • $32.00-$38.00/hour per year depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Requirements/ Qualifications
  • Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training in automotive technology, diesel technology, fabrication, electrical systems, or a related mechanical trade preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience: Experience performing vehicle upfits, automotive or fleet maintenance, fabrication, or related mechanical work required. Experience with aftermarket vehicle accessories, electrical systems, or hydraulic installations preferred.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, suspension systems, braking systems, steering components, hydraulic systems, and general vehicle maintenance.
  • Technical Ability: Ability to read installation instructions, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Driver License: Valid driver’s license with a driving record that includes no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs.
  • Background Check: Required through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in compliance with federal government restrictions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Upfitting: Install, integrate, and maintain lift kits, suspension upgrades, lighting systems, toolboxes, service body components, electrical accessories, hydraulic components, communication equipment, safety equipment, and other custom vehicle enhancements to prepare fleet vehicles for field operations.
  • Fleet Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company pickup trucks, service vehicles, equipment trailers, lowboy trailers, and commercial vehicles to maximize fleet reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, electrical systems, steering and suspension components, braking systems, driveline components, hydraulic systems, and emissions-related systems.
  • Trailer Maintenance: Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on equipment trailers, lowboy trailers, utility trailers, and other specialty hauling equipment.
  • DOT Compliance Support: Support fleet compliance by performing inspections, identifying repair needs, and completing required maintenance on DOT-regulated vehicles and trailers.
  • Fleet Readiness: Ensure vehicles and trailers are properly upfitted, maintained, inspected, and ready to safely support ARI's field operations.
  • Maintenance Documentation: Complete work orders, inspection reports, service records, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely.
  • Repair Coordination: Communicate repair recommendations, maintenance schedules, and parts requirements to the Fleet Operations Coordinator and Field Service Director.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with dealerships, vendors, manufacturers, and service providers to support repairs, warranty work, and specialized maintenance needs.
  • Shop Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment, including proper care of tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Safety Commitment: Maintains a safety-first mindset and consistently follows all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to help ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
