Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Flightline Avionics Technician - A320 based in Mobile, AL.

Role Overview: Responsible for performing Functional Test Procedure (FTP), Pre & Post Flight inspection, preparing built aircraft for test flight and delivery readiness. This includes operating, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and inspecting aircraft systems using approved aircraft data. You will proficiently operate and understand a wide variety of test equipment and tooling. You must be able to interpret technical manuals, drawings, and engineering data to support tasks. Complete assigned tasks within the allocated man-hour budget and meet the guidelines of safety regulations, on quality, and on cost.

Your Working Environment: Nearby on Airbus Way, you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities: 70%

  • Perform aircraft system Functional Test Procedure Test (FTP) / Pre & Post flight Daily Inspection (DI) checklist; prepare built aircraft for test flight readiness.
  • Learn new tasks and techniques to troubleshoot aircraft systems and support Flightline operation at the Airbus FAL Mobile Flight line Organization.
  • Perform and follow Level 1 troubleshooting procedures and report/document findings precisely IAW recommended instructions. This includes:
  • Performance of integrated systems testing, calibration, alignment, troubleshooting, and repair of airborne electronic flight control, navigational, and heating systems.
  • Pretest, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies.
  • Final tuning, alignment, or calibration of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies.
  • Troubleshooting electronic systems, components, or subassemblies to determine the nature of malfunction and corrective action required.
  • Perform Post dock maintenance daily checklist; Safety and security; Incoming inspection.
  • Perform day-to-day planned and unplanned aircraft maintenance.
  • Perform pre-induction first flight configuration / incoming inspection of cabin interior, cockpit, and electronic bays to ensure safety and security before first flight.
  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot instruments, components, and assemblies using circuit testers or volt meters.
  • Verify and upgrade to the latest version of aircraft avionic software.
  • Work closely with the systems engineer to interpret flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the assigned lead person regarding schedules, priorities, availability of parts, supplies, tools, and special instructions as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities: 20%

  • Basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, and powered/non-powered support equipment.
  • Perform a variety of operations in preparing, sealing, and testing using a thorough knowledge of all aircraft sealing techniques, various sealant characteristics (storage, application, tack-free, and cure times).
  • Capable of reading and interpreting approved aircraft diagrams, charts, schematics, and maintenance procedures: AMM/IPC/AWD/SB.
  • Participate in process improvement, root cause analysis, 5S, and all applicable tools for improving workload, quality, safety, and reducing cycle time.
  • Participate in the team daily SQCDP project and daily tool/FOD management.
  • Ability to perform work in confined space areas, height conditions, and outdoor environment conditions.
  • Support and train other aircraft technicians with technical knowledge and skills.
  • Use a variety of standard and specialized hand tools, power equipment, measuring devices, and test equipment in completing work assignments, and jigs/fixtures with associated licenses, such as but not limited to:
  • Crane
  • Cherry-picker
  • Fork lift / Lifting platform / Loading platform
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations regarding confined space entry, respiratory protection, and proper use of respirators.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions because of the degree of responsibility.

Assist Other Duties as Assigned: 10%

Your Boarding Pass (Requirements):

  • 3 years experience with Applied Science in Avionics, A&P, or FCC license.
  • Ability to obtain a Repairman Certificate.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Must be willing to work a Rotation shift schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid passport which allows unrestricted travel.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years minimum aviation experience, preferably in an aviation manufacturing or MRO environment (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of EASA/TCCA Regulations.
  • Valid A&P or FCC License.
  • Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to prepare reports and to discuss equipment malfunction.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow manual instructions to solve complex mechanical problems.
  • Basic operating computer skills: Email/Google workspace/Data entry.
  • Travel Required: 5% Domestic and International.
  • Authorized to Work in the US.

  • Vision: Able to see and utilize computer screens; able to move through the office and from point to point to find specific co-workers and in-house experts.
  • Hearing: Able to hear in normal conversations and respond to warnings and signals.
  • Speaking: Able to participate in normal business conversations.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate standard office equipment, ground support equipment, and man lifts.
  • Carrying: Able to carry up to 40 lbs./18kg.
  • Lifting: Able to lift up to 40lbs/18kg on occasion.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to push/pull up to 500lbs on wheels.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: Able to occasionally be able to squat/kneel.
  • Standing: Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Travel: Able to travel domestically and/or internationally for training purposes and offsite aircraft recovery.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas sometimes on uneven surfaces.
  • Climate: Able to work in various weather conditions.
