Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring a Float Paraprofessional to support students across our school-based behavioral health programs. In this vital role, you will travel between school sites, providing direct 1:1 assistance to students with mild to severe behavioral health needs. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create a structured, supportive environment and respond to student needs using evidence-based practices. This is a dynamic and hands-on role perfect for those who are passionate about working with youth in a therapeutic and educational setting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist program staff in maintaining a therapeutic and structured classroom environment.
  • Provide direct observation and 1:1 support for students with behavioral challenges.
  • Participate in behavioral interventions to promote compliance with program expectations.
  • Deliver immediate, therapeutic crisis interventions when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the team to implement individualized behavior plans.
  • Provide input for daily and weekly student progress summaries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation.
  • Support school field trips and additional program activities as needed.
  • Travel between school sites to provide coverage and support where needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Entry Level (1 year of prior experience working with children)

LICENSES/CREDENTIALS: Valid Washington Food Handler's Permit (can be obtained after start of employment if no current Food Handler's Permit); Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration; Per RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors that "have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children" are required to go through FBI fingerprinting.

This position requires driving clients in a personal vehicle on behalf of the agency. Therefore, the incumbent must meet all agency driving requirements, including being at least 21 years old, having been licensed for a minimum of three years, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Psychology, social services, or behavior health field

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: A minimum of 2 years of job-related experience; relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness; experience working with special education population strongly preferred; experience with milieu treatment along with educational or classroom management

LICENSES/CREDENTIALS: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification

Performance Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge and understanding of educational systems and child development; knowledge of or ability to learn ABA techniques

SKILLS: Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public; skills in providing teaching assistance; communicates clearly and concisely; computer skills (ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently)

ABILITIES: Demonstrated ability to remain calm in high-stress situations; work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member; able to assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment: Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods. Travel between work sites on a regular basis

Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk, or listen. Peripheral vision is also required for this position. This position requires the infrequent use of restraint to support the safety needs of clients and staff.
