Floor coverers must be able to measure and estimate square yardage, or square footage, read and interpret complex floor layout blueprints, inspect & repair floors where needed.
Floor coverers work with different products almost daily; stretch-in carpet, double-stick carpet, direct glue down carpet, vinyl composition tile, linoleum, inlaid vinyl, roto vinyl, pre-finished hardwood floors, laminate floors, vinyl base, carpet base.
Floor coverers work mostly with hand tools but will at times be required to use a wide assortment of power tools such as table saws, Sabre saws, circular saws, power miter saws, band saws, routers, drills, belt sanders, torches, lasers and an assortment of nailers and staplers.
A floor coverer should be in good physical condition because much of the job consists of lifting, carrying, bending and kneeling.
Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds
• Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, squatting and bending
• Strong math and measuring skills for accurate layout
• Keen eye for detail, symmetry and quality craftsmanship
• Ability to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Basic knowledge of industry materials and tools
• Reliable transportation and punctuality
