Role Summary
The Senior Accountant – Auto will be responsible for performing monthly accounting integrity tasks and processes. These tasks will be critical in establishing and maintaining GAAP accounting practices across a large automotive group with multiple locations. The staff accountant will assist in developing and implementing an internal financial reporting and KPI framework for internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Reconcile key balance sheet accounts monthly to the organization’s DMS, bank reconciliations, inventory systems, AP system, etc.
Review monthly general ledger activity, account balances, aged reports, etc., for reasonableness
Perform monthly reporting procedures to bridge dealer financial statements to GAAP financial statements for key internal stakeholders
Prepare schedules/support for board presentation materials
Perform variance analysis procedures over key financial accounts to explain changes in operating results vs planned or prior period
Assist in the annual budgeting process
Document reconciliation procedures as schedules move from cleanup to steady state
Identify and flag recurring discrepancies or control gaps to management
Participate in accrual methodology remediation as directed
Assist in documenting accounting policies and procedures, as well as accounting treatments
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
At least 2+ years of experience with general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, financial statement preparation, balance sheet account reconciliations, etc.
Automotive dealership accounting experience a plus, not required
Advanced Excel skills required
Experience using AI tools (Claude or similar) a plus
Strong reconciliation/analytical mindset — comfortable digging into detail and tracing discrepancies to root cause
Ability to work cross-functionally with dealership operations staff without direct authority over them
