Flow Survey Technician

Position Summary
The Flow Survey Technician is responsible for performing cooling water flow surveys at industrial facilities, power plants, refineries, chemical plants, and commercial sites. The technician utilizes ultrasonic flow measurement equipment and other diagnostic tools to collect flow, temperature, and system performance data. This position requires extensive travel, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely in industrial environments. Because apparently pipes refuse to diagnose themselves.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform cooling tower and heat exchanger flow surveys at customer facilities.
  • Operate ultrasonic flow meters and associated diagnostic equipment.
  • Measure flow rates, temperatures, pressures, and other process variables.
  • Trace piping systems and verify system configurations.
  • Record and organize field data accurately.
  • Prepare sketches, notes, and supporting information for final reports.
  • Assist in developing process flow diagrams and survey deliverables.
  • Identify flow imbalances, restrictions, and operational issues.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to project managers and customers.
  • Maintain and calibrate flow survey equipment.
  • Follow all company and customer safety requirements.
  • Travel extensively to customer sites throughout North America.
  • Support startup, troubleshooting, and balancing activities as required.
  • Work independently or alongside other technicians and engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • TWIC card required. 
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Excel, and basic reporting software.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform work in industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass customer-required safety training, drug screens, and background checks.
  • Willingness to travel 50-75% or more as project demands require.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, and work in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, and fall protection equipment.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
