Picture this: a beam lands at your station. You confirm the piece mark, double-check the revision, verify the finish code, and orient the part. With weld symbols decoded, you choose the correct procedure and size, lay out with precision, and run a flawless FCAW pass. That commitment to doing it right is exactly what we’re after.
Schedule
- 1st Shift typically 5:30am – 4:00pm, Monday–Friday
- 2nd Shift typically 4:00pm – 2:30am, Monday–Friday
Your Impact
- Identify piece marks, revisions, and finish codes before fabrication begins.
- Confirm part orientation; understand industry acronyms to prevent errors.
- Translate weld symbols into the right weld types, sizes, and procedures.
- Execute accurate measurement, layout, and marking with tapes, squares, levels, and layout tools.
- Perform FCAW in 1G or 3G positions per shop drawings.
- Handle thermal cutting, back-gouging, and grinding to prep and finish work.
Safety & Collaboration
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe—Safety > Speed.
- Operate overhead cranes, welders, torches, and grinders with care.
- Partner with CNC operators, foremen, welders, fabricators, painters, and QC to deliver on schedule.
Quality Mindset
- Follow AISC and AWS QMS requirements at every step.
- Confirm material heat numbers, piece marks, and part orientation.
- Self-inspect thoroughly and address issues before QC arrives.
- Communicate drawing or material discrepancies to supervision right away.
What You Bring
- 5+ years in structural steel welding.
- Expertise reading and interpreting structural steel shop drawings and weld symbols.
- Proficiency welding structural steel.
- Experience operating overhead cranes.
- Deep understanding of fabrication tolerances and quality expectations.
- Reliable, safety-oriented, and quality-focused work ethic.
