Job Summary and Qualifications POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Service Associate (FSA) - II maintains the dishroom, janitor closet, and patient food carts in an organized, sanitary manner. Delivers food carts to patient floors, passes out trays and returns carts to the dishroom. The FSA I tends and loads the dish machine, and performs department janitorial duties. The FSA I provides quality customer service to patients by accurately loading patient trays according to tray ticket orders. Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills in passing trays and interacting with staff on the patient units. Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment and following HACCP procedures for the safe handling of food and removal of soiled trays from patient rooms. Must be flexible to work other positions and shifts as dictated by the needs of the hospital and/or the department. Duties may include running cash register, assisting customers, and cash handling. The FSA II may be assigned any of the following areas of responsibility: host/hostess, tray line, and dishroom. FSA II is required to work every other weekend and some evening shifts. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. General duties: Accesses computer system for patient meal information and ordering. Read patient meal tickets and prepare trays accurately. Assembles patient meals: Assembles all needed items for trayline prior to the start of line in order to eliminate disruptions of the trayline process. Meets time requirements for trayline service, no later than 7:45 a.m. for breakfast, 11:45 a.m. for lunch, and 5:00 p.m. for dinner. Utilizes efficient time and motion techniques to keep line moving in a timely manner. Places foods on trays accurately, according to instructions noted on the patient diet cards 98% of the time. Accountable for proper tray and food presentation. Delivers patient meals and snacks: Compares diet card name with patient name on door before delivering any meal and greets patient by name. Assists patients with meal preparation, within parameters of duties. Delivers meals in a timely, courteous fashion, ensuring that all meals are delivered no later than 8:20 a.m. for breakfast, 12:30 p.m. for lunch, and 5:45 p.m. for dinner. Delivers snacks directly to the patient room, or to the unit refrigerator (for HS snacks) at the time indicated by diet guidelines, request from patient, staff, or supervisor's instructions. HS snacks must be well wrapped and labeled with the date, patient name, and room number. Retrieves soiled meal trays from patient rooms no later than 6:45 p.m. Participates in ware washing when dishwasher is absent. Prepares and delivers patient late trays. Checks the Meditech printer each half-hour for late tray requests, until 11:00 a.m. for late breakfast, 4:00 p.m. for late lunches, and 6:30 .m. for late dinners. Prepares food tray with menu as it was offered for the previous meal, except when other foods are requested, or if it is within 2 hours of the next meal (a light meal should be prepared). All foods to be served hot must be heated to proper temperatures. Covers all foods and delivers to the appropriate patient in a timely, courteous manner. Covers, stores, labels, and dates all food items properly in accepted time frame for storage. Delivers Floor Stock items to each department daily according to par sheets. Cleans work station each shift, including beverage machines, dishes, sweeping & mopping. Dishwashing duties, including scraping, washing and restocking dishes as needed. Completes all cleaning tasks on department cleaning schedule according to assigned time frame. Following proper food safety and occupational safety rules. 2. Professional Requirements: Adheres to dress code: appearance is neat and clean. Wears designated department uniform in a professional and sanitary condition with appropriate hair restraint with clean, non-skid closed-toe shoes. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains education and development appropriate for position. Wears identification/badge while on duty. Attends appropriate departmental and committee meetings on a regular basis. Attends departmental in-service and mandatory education. Masters new work routine, methods, and techniques. Demonstrates understanding of hospital and departmental policies and procedures. 3. Behavioral Requirements: Shows creativity in addressing issues rather than defeating attitude. Demonstrates negotiations/conflict resolution skills. Understands and adheres to the confidentiality policy. Accepts accountability for impact of behavior on others. Demonstrates enthusiasm and self-motivation in performing job duties. Demonstrates an appreciation of cost factors in the routine performance of duties and maximizes cost efficiency. Accepts and supports change(s) in the organization. 4. Responds to management's and co-workers requests for information/assistance in a cooperative manner within an appropriate time frame. Management of information and environment of care: Reduces the risk of acquiring or transmitting infection by learning and adhering to hospital and departmental policies and immediately communicating all unsatisfactory issues to management. Attends mandatory education to refresh knowledge in preventing the spread of infections. Performs duties in a safe, functional and effective manner that reduces hazards and risks, prevents accidents and injuries and maintains safe conditions by adhering to established safety standards for body mechanics, electrical biohazard, utilities and emergency preparedness plan. Washes hands thoroughly and frequently following good personal hygiene practices. Understands and utilizes personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation and/or biohazard. Understands and adheres to emergency codes and procedures. Able to describe responsibilities for each code as well as evacuation route and department meeting area. Is competent and responsible in following safety & security polices of the hospital. Utilizes equipment in safe, effective manner. Is knowledgeable of the location and contents of the MSDS manual. Adheres and supports hospital's smoking policy. 6. Employee's conduct must reflect the company's values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct, ethics and compliance program. Supports hospital mission statement, standards of behavior, and goals. 7. Adheres and upholds all service behaviors as listed in the ICARE value commitment and other departmental initiatives. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's Georgetown Hospital "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. Knowledge of quality food production practices. Effective communication skills required. Ability to read and speak English in order to comprehend written instructions and communicate with patients & staff. Good customer service skills are necessary. Maintains a working telephone or agreed upon alternate form of communication. Must work well independently; be time efficient and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; able to lift 30-40 pounds; have basic math and reading skills, and be mentally alert. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: None Preferred: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum 6 months of food handling experience.
