Seeking for an experienced FOIA Consultant to support the processing of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. The ideal candidate will have experience reviewing records for responsiveness, applying FOIA exemptions, redacting sensitive information, and ensuring compliance with federal laws and agency regulations. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and the capability to work independently while managing multiple requests.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests from receipt through final response.
Review records to determine responsiveness to FOIA requests.
Identify and apply appropriate FOIA exemptions in accordance with federal regulations.
Perform document redactions involving trade secrets, confidential commercial information, and other protected data.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders to locate, review, and process responsive records.
Communicate professionally with requesters, regulated industry representatives, and internal teams regarding FOIA requests.
Prepare written correspondence and maintain accurate documentation throughout the FOIA process.
Ensure all requests are processed within established timelines while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and agency policies.
Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive information during document review and release.
Support continuous process improvements related to FOIA request processing and records management.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
Strong knowledge of FOIA laws, regulations, exemptions, and processing procedures.
Experience reviewing records for responsiveness and identifying exempt information.
Experience performing document redactions, including trade secret and confidential commercial information.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong negotiation and stakeholder communication skills.
Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with FDA laws, regulations, procedures, and records.
Experience supporting federal government agencies or regulated industries.
Knowledge of federal records management practices.
Experience handling complex or high-volume FOIA requests.
