Position Summary:
Food Handlers/Cooks are responsible for production of food products in a safe and healthy manner, using proper food handling and sanitation procedures. May be assigned to a number of locations at Grand Canyon West.
 
Knowledge and Abilities:
  1. Experience in preparing food while observing sound health and sanitation practices.
  2. Ability to communicate well and interact with guests in a clear concise manner.
  3. Ability to provide outstanding customer service by providing prompt, courteous and helpful service and information to guests.
  4. Ability to load and unload delivery trucks and handle inventory of items required by Food & Beverage.
  5. Ability to handle cash and follow all cash handling policies and procedures.
  6. Ability to work in a team environment, multi-task efficiently and maintain positive working relationships.
  7. Ability to perform custodial tasks such as washing dishes, sweeping, trash collection, bus tables and mopping of floors.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. In the kitchen, prepares meals and food items, while observing sound health and sanitation practices such as proper hand washing, avoiding cross contamination, monitoring food temperatures and proper sanitation of utensils and cooking surfaces. Completes temperature or stock logs.
  2. If working on the serving line, observes stock levels of food items and notifies appropriate staff. Provides outstanding customer service to guests.
  3. Washes dishes, sweeps floor, bus tables, handles trash collection and mops floors as assigned throughout shift.
  4. May handle cash registers, following proper cash handling policies and procedures.
  5. Loads and unloads delivery trucks and handles inventory of Food & Beverage items.
  6. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  1. Good oral communication skills.
  2. Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record.
  3. High School Diploma or GED.
  4. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  5. Prior cooking and serving experience working in fast food or a restaurant.
  6. Current Food Handlers’ card.
  7. Preference given to Hualapai Tribal members.
 
Working Conditions:
Kitchen environment with exposure to heat. Must be able to work extended periods while standing. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work varying schedules, weekends and holidays. Willingness to work in remote location.
 
 
Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen and extensive background check may be required. The Hualapai, meaning "People of The Tall Pines," are native people of the Southwest. Traditionally hunter-gatherers, they inhabited an area of more than 5 million acres. Their homeland stretched from the Grand Canyon southward to the Santa Maria River and from the Black Mountains eastward to the pine forests of the San Francisco peaks. Today, the Hualapai American Indian Reservation, created in 1883, is nearly 1,000,000 acres that includes 108 miles of the Colorado River and Grand Canyon. There are approximately 2,100 enrolled members of the Hualapai Tribe and nearly half live in Peach Springs, the capital of the Hualapai Nation, on Historic Route 66.

Years of social and economic hardship led Hualapai Leaders to take measures that would lead to an independent future for the generations to come. As a result, the Hualapai decided to open their land to visitors in 1988, creating Grand Canyon West as a tourism destination. Currently, multiple improvements – including a "Boys and Girls Club" facility, a "Head Start" facility and a Social Services building – have been built in Peach Springs. Many more projects are planned for the future, all made possible by Hualapai Tourism.
