A day in the life
You begin your shift by reviewing digital work orders and scanning the lines for early signals—motor temps, drive faults, sensor alignment. A packaging conveyor trips a breaker: you diagnose with a multimeter, swap a failed relay, and document the fix. Mid-morning, you tune a VFD to improve throughput, then push a minor PLC logic tweak to stabilize product flow. In the afternoon, you complete a preventive inspection on a panel, update SOPs, and coach a line operator on safe reset procedures. Throughout the day, safety, uptime, and product quality drive every decision.
What you’ll own
- Electrical installs and PMs: Build and service wiring, conduit, panels, motors, and control systems; configure components for new/existing lines; execute scheduled inspections to prevent downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Use meters, scopes, and diagnostic tools to find faults; repair/replace wiring, switches, relays, breakers; collaborate with maintenance on root-cause and long-term fixes.
- Automation: Program, adjust, and maintain PLCs (Siemens, Allen‑Bradley), VFDs, and HMIs; fine‑tune controls to lift efficiency, throughput, and quality.
- Compliance & documentation: Keep accurate records of work orders, inspections, and parts; ensure NEC, OSHA, and industry standards are met; contribute to SOP development and revisions.
- Safety & training: Follow PPE and safety protocols; perform risk assessments; train production/maintenance staff on safe use and basic troubleshooting.
