Join Fresh Mark as a Food Safety & Quality Control Technologist

Location: Salem, Ohio | Shift: 1st Shift | Pay:$19.00/hour

Picture your day beginning in our Salem plant: you prep the QA station, calibrate instruments, and head to the floor to keep production on track. You’ll rotate through lab testing, environmental monitoring, and process verification—ensuring every product meets internal standards, customer specs, and regulatory requirements.

What you’ll do

  • Complete physical, analytical, microbial, and sensory evaluations following established QA manuals and procedures.
  • Verify processes throughout production, packaging, sanitation, and warehousing; escalate deviations to QA leadership and partner departments.
  • Perform environmental monitoring with aseptic technique and coordinate testing schedules with Sanitation.
  • Set up QA stations and calibrate equipment for processing runs.
  • Assist line technicians as needed and support the Sample Retain Program.
  • Compile departmental metrics, generate routine reports, and consolidate QA audit findings.
  • Provide independent oversight of operations for adherence to company standards and policies; communicate nonconformances clearly and promptly.
  • Help train team members on food safety, company procedures, and FDA Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain organized, accurate QA documentation, including USDA pre-shipment records and specification compliance.
  • Participate in required trainings; maintain readiness across GMP, HACCP, CCPs, and Safety.

Food safety and quality impact

  • Sample and test raw materials and finished goods; confirm results meet specifications.
  • Conduct sanitation audits and support pre-operational inspections.
  • Implement and sustain the Environmental Monitoring Program.
  • Carry out monitoring activities to verify finished product food safety and quality.
  • Report test outcomes and variances to QA management; promptly raise safety or quality issues.
  • Work in compliance with Plant, State, and Federal regulations and programs, including OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, and SQF.
  • Model and uphold Good Manufacturing Practices at all times.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; two-year degree/certificate in Food Science or related field preferred.
  • 1+ year of Quality Assurance or related experience in a food processing environment preferred.
  • Understanding of FDA GMPs and HACCP principles; familiarity with modern food manufacturing and food safety systems.

Skills you bring

  • Working knowledge of food safety fundamentals and basic product testing equipment.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and basic math proficiency.
  • Data entry, data interpretation, and database upkeep.
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Clear written and verbal communication; fluent reading and writing in English.
