The Elcho School District is a PK-12 community school located at the start of Wisconsin''s Northwoods. We are located 25 minutes north of Antigo and 25 minutes south of Rhinelander on Highway 45. The Elcho area is a great location for enjoying all the Northwoods has to offer, surrounded by lakes and public recreational areas tailored to both motorized and non-motorized sports. We also have an on-site childcare center (Youngstar rated) that serves children ages six weeks through school age, and a morning 4K program. Position Summary: The Food Service Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school district's food service program, ensuring the provision of nurturing, appealing and safe meals while adhering to regulations and managing the program's budget and staff. The role involves menu planning, procurement, financial management, food preparation, serving meals, staff supervision, and maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.
Terms of Employment
- Full-Time School Term Employee (5 paid holidays)
- 7.5 hours per day, 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Work hours are 5:30 am - 1:30 pm
- Begin on/around August 18 through on/around June 6, summer hours pending district involvement in the summer meal program
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management:
- Directing the overall operation of the food service program
- Responsible for keeping up with all Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and USDA Guidelines for menu planning, Procurement of the USDA foods, and delivery
- Participates in in-service training as required
- Assessing kitchen and facility needs, collaborating with the B&G Director and the District Administrator on upgrades or maintenance, and ensuring proper equipment operation.
Menu Planning and Nutrition:
- Developing menus that meet nutritional standards, cater to student preferences, and comply with regulations.
- Responsible for the weekly nutrition, including sodium, fats, calories, Meat/meat alternatives, grains, and vegetable subgroups are met
- Monitors food production and service to ensure that planned menus are followed and that substitutions comply with meal requirements and student allergies
- Ensures the publication of menus on the District website monthly
- Communicates menu changes with the school office a day in advance
Financial Management:
- Developing and managing food and supply ordering, inventory control, and vendor relationships
- Coordinate vendor delivery of food products and check against the purchase order to ensure accuracy.
Staff Management:
- Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising food service staff, ensuring a well-trained and efficient team.
- Responsible for overseeing foodservice staff, organizing interviews, completing performance reviews, and working with the district administrator to handle discipline issues.
- Provides on-the-job training to staff in areas of food production and sanitation.
- Monitors all staff performance in food production, serving of food, cashier/point of service, purchasing/procurement, receiving/storing, food safety, communications, and marketing
- Ensures and promotes confidentiality in all matters
- Create and enforce food personnel work schedules, and arrange for substitute workers when needed
- Train food service personnel on job duties and responsibilities, according to the rules and procedures of the HACCP safety program.
Food Safety and Sanitation:
- Ensure that food service personnel follow the Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) safety program in place, including charting temperatures and following other safety procedures for food from delivery to serving and clean up.
- Ensures and/or maintains the safety and cleanliness of all food preparation, service, and work areas, tools, and facilities
Compliance:
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant district policies, federal and state laws and regulations, including nutritional guidelines and food safety standards.
- Implements efficient management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and policies
Customer Service:
- Monitoring customer satisfaction, addressing feedback, and ensuring a positive dining experience for students and staff.
- All other duties as assigned by the District Administrator
