Food Service Director (12-Month Position)
Location: District-Wide
Reports To: Business Manager

About the Role
The District is seeking a collaborative and experienced Food Service Director to lead our K-12 school nutrition program. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of food service operations, ensuring students receive nutritious, high-quality meals while maintaining compliance with state and federal guidelines.

What You'll Do
- Lead and support all school food service operations across the district
- Plan and oversee menus that meet USDA and state nutrition standards
- Ensure clean, safe, and efficient kitchen operations at all sites
- Monitor budgets, purchasing, inventory, and cost control
- Oversee USDA Foods ordering and federal reimbursement processes
- Visit school kitchens regularly to support staff and ensure consistency
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate food service staff
- Build positive relationships with staff, students, and district leadership
- Promote healthy eating and support district wellness initiatives
- Coordinate food service for special events and district programs
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a leader who brings a combination of experience, organization, and a team-first mindset:
- Background in food service management, nutrition, culinary arts, or a related field
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) USDA school nutrition programs
- Experience with budgeting, inventory, and cost management
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and identify efficiencies
- Experience in school food service is a plus
Minimum Qualifications (per Wisconsin DPI):
Candidates must meet one of the DPI-approved pathways, which may include a degree, relevant experience, and/or willingness to obtain a School Nutrition GOALS Certificate.
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Comfortable working in kitchen environments (heat, cold, noise, humidity)
- Active role that may include standing, bending, and reaching
