Food Service Driver and Inventory ManagerAbout CARITASCARITAS creates a safe space to heal and time to rebuild. Through our interconnected programs: Emergency Shelter, The Healing Place, CARITAS Works, Recovery Residences, and the Furniture Bank. We serve the Greater Richmond area with compassion and a focus on lasting change.Position SummaryCARITAS prepares approximately 800 meals each day across two campuses. The Food Service Driver and Inventory Manager ensures the safe and efficient movement, storage, and management of food products that support these operations.Serving as the primary driver for CARITAS Food Services, this role coordinates daily food donation pickups, transports products between locations, manages food inventories, assists with purchasing, and supports kitchen operations. Working closely with the Senior Manager of Food Services, the position helps ensure the right food is available at the right time while maximizing donated resources, reducing waste, and upholding the highest standards of food safety.The role also provides day-to-day guidance to program participants assigned to food service operations, helping them develop workplace skills while supporting an efficient and organized kitchen environment.Essential FunctionsTransportation & Food RecoveryServe as the primary driver for daily food donation pickups from Feed More, retail partners, and community donors.Safely transport, load, unload, inspect, and distribute food products between CARITAS facilities.Build and maintain positive working relationships with community food partners.Complete vehicle inspections, fueling, and documentation; report maintenance concerns promptly.Ensure all transported products meet food safety standards.Inventory ManagementManage food inventories across both campuses, including dry storage, refrigeration, and freezer space.Receive, inspect, label, rotate, and store inventory using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) practices.Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counts and monthly inventories.Track donated and purchased food products to ensure inventory accuracy.Maintain established inventory levels and communicate product availability to support menu planning.Purchasing & Food Service OperationsAssist with ordering food, kitchen supplies, and operational materials.Process purchase documentation, invoices, returns, and credits.Coordinate inventory transfers between locations.Monitor product quality, freshness, and expiration dates.Support meal production and kitchen operations as needed.Serve as the primary backup for Kitchen Coordinators, assuming responsibility for kitchen operations and meal production during planned and unplanned absences to ensure uninterrupted food service.Prepare meals and assist with food preparation during staffing shortages or high-volume periods.Report equipment repair or replacement needs to the Senior Manager of Food Services.Participant LeadershipProvide daily instruction and guidance to program participants assigned to food service.Promote safe work practices and proper food handling procedures.Foster teamwork, accountability, and professionalism.Assist with training volunteers and interns when assigned.General ResponsibilitiesMaintain compliance with Virginia Department of Health regulations.Maintain ServSafe and Feed More certifications.Support special events requiring food service or transportation.Work collaboratively with all CARITAS programs.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED.Minimum of two years of experience in food service, warehouse operations, logistics, inventory management, or commercial driving.Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Restaurant, institutional food service, or commercial kitchen experience preferred.Batch meal preparation experience strongly preferred.Purchasing and inventory management experience preferred.Experience operating cargo vans or similar commercial vehicles preferred.ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain).Feed More Shopper Authorization (or ability to obtain).Working knowledge of FIFO inventory management.Ability to safely lift and move up to 80 pounds.Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while working independently and as part of a team.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but provides day-to-day guidance, instruction, and oversight to program participants, interns, and volunteers assigned to food service operations. More About CARITASInclusion StatementCARITAS is committed to cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion and connectedness.
