Food Service General Worker Substitute Position Overview The Wallingford Public Schools Food Services Department is seeking dependable and flexible Food Service Substitutes to join our team. Substitutes fill in when regular cafeteria staff are absent, ensuring that students receive nutritious meals in a clean and welcoming environment. Substitutes are given priority consideration for open regular positions when they become available based on job performance. Key Responsibilities Prepare and serve meals according to established menus and portion guidelines. Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Maintain the cleanliness of food service areas, including counters, tables, and serving lines. Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food and supplies. Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations. Provide friendly customer service to students and staff. Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required Prior food service or kitchen experience helpful but not required. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift to 25 pounds. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to maintaining a safe and sanitary environment. Schedule & Compensation Hours: Schedule: On-call basis; assignments vary by location and availability. Flexible, typically 2-6 hours per day depending on school needs. Pay: $16.94 per hour
