The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Montana State Hospital.

The Food Service Manager manages dietary service in accordance with recommended deitary considerations and health and sanitation standards. General duties include providing oversight of various dietary menus, researching and recommending products and practices for the hospital environment, budgeting and inventory management, and management of Dietary personnel.

Required for the first day of work:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of food service management, inventory, and purchasing processes.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safe food handling practices.

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal food safety regulations; familiarity with all relevant food safety and sanitation laws and regulations.

  • Knowledge of food allergies, special and therapeutic diets: An understanding of common food allergies and ability to prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary restrictions and allergies.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare kitchen procedures and food service protocol.

  • Skills in budgeting and cost control

  • Proficient in use of dietary software for meal planning, inventory management, and nutritional analysis.

  • Strong leadership and team building skills: Ability to manage a team effectively, maintain an effective working relationships, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.

  • Crisis management skills: Ability to deal effectively with food service emergencies or crises, such as foodborne illness outbreaks or supply chain interruptions.

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to collaborate with others and work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.

  • Must be proficient in the use of standard office equipment (facsimile, copy machine, etc.), including a personal computer and common software including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and Access.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Bachelor''s degree in Dietary, Nutrition, or Food Service Management.
  • Three years of job-related experience in management or administration of food service operations.
  • Must have ServSafe Food Handler certification or obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Industry recognized Dietary Manager Certification preferred.
  • Experience assigning, monitoring, and reviewing staff work to ensure accuracy, efficient, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Other related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
