Job Description:

GENERAL CAFETERIA WORKER

Reports to: Cafeteria Manager

Part-time academic calendar position. 3.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday

Location: New Hartford Public Schools

Position open until filled / Anticipated start date August 19, 2026

Major Responsibilities:

  • Tasks include preparing food which may involve basic cooking, serving food to students, cleaning kitchen equipment and putting away stock / deliveries.
  • Performs assigned tasks in designated areas
  • Follows all sanitation and health codes governing food preparation and personal appearance
  • Works with hot ovens, sharp tools, slippery floors, and some heavy lifting
  • General knowledge of food and nutrition preferred
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous food service helpful
  • Ability to operate and care for institutional/industrial equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be detail oriented and keep accurate records as directed
  • Possess good judgment
  • Requires working independently and as a team
  • Regular and consistent attendance is considered an essential function of this position

Physical Requirements:

  • Moves and lifts equipment weighting up to 50 pounds
  • Moves throughout the school kitchen to prepare food and perform other duties.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts
