Food Service Technician (PRN, Part-Time)

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Food Service Technician to join our Nutrition Services team. In this role, you will support daily food service operations by providing exceptional service to patients, visitors,and co-workers while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and hospitality.

The Food Service Technician performs a variety of non-cooking duties, including meal assembly, cold food preparation, tray delivery, cashiering, dishwashing, sanitation, stocking, and general cleaning. This position plays an important role in delivering a positive dining experience and supporting patient satisfaction.

  • Assemble snacks, nourishments, and meal trays according to physician orders, patient preferences, and hospital policies.
  • Prepare salads, grab-and-go items, and other cold food products.
  • Set up serving stations with breads, condiments, beverages, and utensils.
  • Serve and replenish food from counters and steam tables during meal service.
  • Expedite food for patients and assist with timely tray delivery.
  • Load food carts for service and assist with meal distribution.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Assist patients with opening containers and cutting food when appropriate.
  • Operate a cash register and process customer transactions as assigned.
  • Brew coffee and tea and maintain beverage stations.
  • Restock supplies, condiments, and service areas throughout the shift.
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations, food preparation areas, counters, steam tables, and equipment.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support department operations and Mercy's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in food service, hospitality, retail, customer service, healthcare, or another service-related environment preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with patients, guests, and team members.
  • Ability to work in direct contact with a variety of food products.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to food safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
