POSITION: FOOD SERVICE WORKER

SUPERVISOR: FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Food Service workers are responsible for routine food service tasks in the kitchen, cafeteria, dining room, dish room and special function areas. These tasks could include preparing, serving and distributing food to students and faculty in their assigned unit, maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment, and working in a fast-paced food environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute high-volume food preparation according to standardized recipes, ensuring proper portion control and nutritional compliance for K-12 students.
  • Coordinate the secure transport and delivery of meals to designated serving lines or satellite locations, maintaining strict temperature controls during transit.
  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment; sort, wash, and sanitize all service ware and cookware according to health department standards.
  • Maintain "Audit-Ready" kitchen conditions daily; execute deep-cleaning tasks to meet or exceed EcoSure and internal MFA (Daily Audit) rigorous safety and sanitation benchmarks.
  • Perform specialized floor care, including sweeping, scrubbing, and degreasing, to prevent slip-and-fall hazards and meet high-level cleanliness expectations.
  • Sanitize all food contact surfaces, kitchen equipment, and cafeteria dining areas (tables/benches) before, during, and after meal service.
  • Manage timely trash removal and recycling protocols; sanitize waste receptacles to prevent pest infestation and odors.
  • Conduct and record CCP (Critical Control Point) checks, including internal food temperatures, refrigeration logs, and sanitizer concentrations.
  • Adhere to strict hygiene protocols, including proper handwashing, glove usage, and color-coded tool systems to ensure student safety.
  • Receive, inspect, and stock incoming food and supply deliveries; ensure items are stored 6 inches off the floor and organized for easy inventory counting.
  • Apply FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles to all dry, refrigerated, and frozen goods to minimize spoilage and ensure freshness.
  • Demonstrate adaptability by performing "other duties as assigned," such as assisting with special school events, emergency meal service, or covering vacant stations.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with students, faculty, and health inspectors, representing the district's commitment to wellness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent degree
  • Strong Interpersonal and Customer Service Skills
  • E-Food Handler certification within 90 days
  • Ability to work in diverse cultures, understanding school culture, putting needs of students first.
  • Excellent Attention to Detail
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently and in small groups, communications are consistent, calm, and professional.
  • Reports any safety or staff concerns to the immediate supervisor or FSD.
  • 100% compliance to uniform standards, shoe standards, and MFA requirements for safety and sanitation.
  • Flexibility in working a variety of positions and tasks, and taking direction from immediate supervisors proactively and willingly as needs of business and staffing change daily.
  • Understanding school mission and values- understanding relationship of Elior School Dining and the contracted community.
  • Prior Food Service Experience is Preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds) reaching, squatting, kneeling, and

moving light furniture may be required. Long hours of standing and walking.

SAFETY AND HEALTH:

  1. Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

  2. Knowledge and training in first aid procedures should be required for handling athletic

related injuries.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL HANDLED:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multi-media equipment including current technology.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.

Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self

motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour

work may be required.
