General Job Information

Job Summary

Serves as Food Service Foreman, planning, scheduling and directing the food service operation of the assigned unit. Assures adherence to rules and regulations of the unit concerning patient safety, employee safety, conduct etc. Prepares assignment and vacation schedules for Food Service Workers. Ensures that all patients receiving meals on time and items are scheduled on the menu. Participates in charting items needed per meal utilizing the computerized production sheets. Advice and consults with Cooks and Dietitians on significant problems arising from meals. Evaluates the total work of the unit to improve work methods and expedite work accomplishments.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENT:

This position requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is experience which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled.

Licensures, Certifications and other requirements

Must have a current valid ServSafe Certification and

A Food Safety Manager's License is required at the time of application for this position.

Education

Minimum Education Requirement

Must possess a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency (GED)

Work Experience

Experience leading or supervising in an inpatient Food Service environment. Knowledge of work practices, cleanliness, neatness, infection control and sanitation in food service, and ability to use and care for kitchen utensils and equipment in a hospital or inpatient environment.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.

Tour of Duty: Required to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays

Position Designation: This position is deemed as "Safety Sensitive" pursuant to Section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations, in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests:

  • Criminal background check;
  • Traffic record check (as applicable);
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test;
  • Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test;
  • Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test;
  • Random drug and alcohol test; and
  • Return-to-duty or follow-up drug and alcohol test.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants unless the person declines the preference points. Applicants claiming "Residency Preference" will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
