Job Type: Full-Time, Contract PositionLocation: Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis Air Force Base, NevadaSchedule: Monday–Friday, one 8-hour shift scheduled between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., not to exceed 40 hours per week. Shift schedules are normally issued 10 calendar days in advance.
Position Summary
The Food Service Worker supports patient and staff dining operations at Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center. The position is responsible for preparing and portioning basic food items, assembling patient meals, operating food-service equipment, maintaining sanitary kitchen and dining areas, and providing professional customer service. This position is considered mission-essential and requires dependable attendance.
Requirements
The candidate shall have at minimum:
A high school diploma.
A current Food Handler’s Card or Certificate.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support—Course C or American Red Cross CPR/BLS certification, maintained at the candidate’s expense.
A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain authorization to operate a Government vehicle when necessary.
Authorization to work legally in the United States.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Knowledge of basic food-handling, hygiene, sanitation, and infection-control practices.
The ability to understand menus, recipes, schedules, production worksheets, serving sizes, safety instructions, and chemical Safety Data Sheets.
Basic arithmetic skills for measuring and portioning food.
The ability to use Microsoft Outlook and electronic timekeeping software.
The ability to follow verbal and written instructions and perform routine tasks independently with minimal assistance.
The ability to pass required background screening, fingerprinting, and security-processing requirements.
The ability to complete required medical screening, including a physical examination, two-step tuberculosis screening, vaccinations, and other applicable health requirements.
The ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and frequently bend, stoop, push, pull, and reach.
The ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and push carts weighing more than 100 pounds.
The ability to safely use ladders, commercial kitchen equipment, dishwashing systems, floor buffers, steamers, and other powered cleaning equipment.
A professional appearance, good personal hygiene, and the ability to wear required protective equipment, including gloves, aprons, hair restraints, beard restraints, and masks when applicable.
Duties
The candidate must:
Prepare sandwiches, salads, fresh fruit, and other basic food items using prepared ingredients.
Portion food into established serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers.
Assemble trays and deliver meals, including hot food and beverages, to patients or dining patrons.
Label and store unused food properly, including documenting expiration dates.
Brew coffee using commercial food-service equipment.
Set up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining areas, trays, dishes, silverware, glasses, and condiments.
Restock utensils, cups, napkins, beverages, snacks, pre-made meals, sandwiches, and salad-bar items before, during, and after meal service.
Monitor and document freezer, refrigerator, and hot and cold food temperatures.
Apply proper sanitation practices to prevent food contamination, spoilage, and waste.
Clean and sanitize food-preparation surfaces, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, dining tables, and chairs.
Load, operate, and clean continuous conveyor dishwashing equipment and three-compartment sinks.
Wash, scour, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, and other kitchenware.
Sweep, mop, steam, and buff floors in kitchens, serving areas, corridors, entryways, and other high-traffic spaces.
Complete heavy-duty cleaning, including cleaning ceilings, exhaust hoods, and areas beneath or behind kitchen equipment.
Empty food waste and trash, transport it to designated dumpsters, and safely operate the trash compactor.
Immediately clean spilled food and liquids to prevent slips and falls.
Follow food-safety, infection-control, HIPAA, occupational-safety, and facility policies.
Identify and report food shortages, supply shortages, equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, and health hazards.
Provide courteous and professional service to patients, staff members, and visitors.
Complete assigned duties accurately, safely, and within required operational timelines.
Attend required orientation and training, including fire response, active-shooter response, cybersecurity, and workplace safety.
Perform other related duties consistent with the Food Service Worker position.
