About the Role
Food Service Workers perform a variety of food service tasks in the areas of meal assembly and service, dishwashing, sanitation and safety. The tasks are generally routine manual tasks that require medium physical effort and are related to the preparation and service of food. In the area of food preparation, they clean areas for the receipt, storage and preparation of food, wash pots and pans, sterilize food sample jars, put food deliveries into storage areas and carry food to preparation areas as required. They may also clean fruits, vegetables and potatoes for cooking and do simple grill type cooking as required. In the area of food service, they set and wait on tables, serve food into proper portions, serve special food to those on modified diets, make toast, coffee, tea and salads and may record the number of meals served. They also clean dining room and service areas, wash dining room furniture, windows and woodwork, use dishwashing machines to wash dishes and serving utensils and take inventory of supplies and requisition and store them as necessary.
