Position Title: Foreign Language Teacher
Funding Source: General Fund
Reports to: This position reports to and is evaluated by the School Principal
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language Education or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate World Language endorsement.
- Spanish – FF Endorsement
French – FA Endorsement
German – FB Endorsement
Chinese (Mandarin) – FS Endorsement
- Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students preferred.
- Strong understanding of language acquisition and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Position Description:
The K-8 Foreign Language Teacher provides high-quality instruction that develops students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language while fostering appreciation for diverse cultures and global citizenship. The teacher will create engaging and student-centered learning experiences aligned with Michigan standards and the mission of Detroit Academy of Arts & Sciences.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-based foreign language instruction for students in grades K-8.
- Foster student proficiency in communication, vocabulary development, reading, writing, and cultural understanding.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and interactive learning experiences to engage students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate academic records.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and school leadership to support student achievement and school initiatives.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
- Participate in professional development, school events, and district initiatives.
- Integrate arts and cultural experiences into language instruction whenever possible.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
