Solve What Others Can’t
We are seeking a Forensic Structural Engineer to join a high-growth, nationally recognized engineering and consulting team known for delivering clear, defensible answers to complex structural failures.

This is an opportunity to build specialized expertise in forensic engineering while working on diverse, real-world projects across industries like healthcare, data centers, infrastructure, and commercial facilities. If you’re driven by problem-solving, autonomy, and variety in your work, this role offers a unique and rewarding path.

About the Role
This position is ideal for engineers who want to move beyond traditional design work and into investigative engineering. You’ll evaluate structural damage, determine root causes, and produce high-quality technical reports that stand up to scrutiny.

The work is dynamic—some weeks focused on site inspections, others centered on analysis and report writing. Flexibility and responsiveness are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Investigations:
Conduct site inspections to assess structural damage caused by storms, construction defects, foundation movement, fires, accidents, and other events

  • Root Cause Analysis:
Evaluate failure mechanisms and develop well-supported conclusions

  • Technical Reporting:
Prepare clear, concise, and defensible engineering reports with strong attention to detail

  • Client Interaction:
Communicate findings and updates to clients, carriers, attorneys, and project stakeholders

  • Project Ownership:
Manage assignments independently while collaborating with internal subject matter experts

What to Expect

  • Flexible, Non-Traditional Schedule:
This is not a standard 8–5 role. Workloads vary based on project demand—some weeks may involve multiple site visits, while others are focused on remote analysis

  • Travel:
Primarily regional, short-duration travel with occasional overnight stays

  • Remote Work:
Fully remote role with the expectation of proximity to client sites for responsiveness

  • Consistent Project Flow:
Strong, established client base across Northern Ohio, including Cleveland and Akron, supports steady and predictable demand

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (Ohio or eligible via reciprocity)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Willingness to travel as needed and perform fieldwork

Level II (Early Career):
  • ~1–3+ years of structural or forensic experience
  • Strong interest in developing forensic expertise

Level III (Experienced):
  • 5–10+ years of experience, including forensic investigations
  • Ability to independently lead complex cases
  • Expert witness or litigation support experience is a plus

Why This Opportunity

  • High-Growth Organization:
Join a firm that has scaled significantly in recent years, creating strong career advancement opportunities

  • Specialized Career Path:
Build in-demand forensic expertise in a niche, high-value discipline

  • Autonomy + Support:
Work independently with access to deep technical resources and collaborative peers

  • Performance-Based Upside:
Compensation model includes additional earnings tied to productivity, with flexibility to transition to higher-variable structures as your practice grows

  • Flexibility that Works:
Designed for professionals who value work-life balance but can adapt to the dynamic nature of forensic projects

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $90,000 – $185,000
  • Additional Compensation: Productivity-based earnings potential
  • Comprehensive benefits package including:
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • 401(k) with company match
    • Paid time off and holidays
    • Wellness programs and employee assistance resources
    • Professional development and career growth support

Ideal Candidate
You’ll be a strong fit if you are:
  • Curious and analytical with a desire to understand “why things fail”
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, variable work environment
  • Motivated by ownership, autonomy, and accountability
  • Open to travel and flexible scheduling beyond a traditional workday
  • Eager to build a long-term career in forensic engineering

Additional Consideration
Candidates may be asked to disclose any applicable non-compete or non-solicitation agreements during the hiring process to ensure compliance.

If you’re ready to apply your engineering expertise in a more dynamic, investigative setting—and grow within a rapidly expanding organization—this role offers the platform to do it.
