JOB SUMMARY
This position operates equipment in the maintenance of city parks, boulevards, rights-of-way, and other properties. An incumbent in this position may be designated "Senior Forestry Operator."
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains parks and boulevards, including rights-of-way, turf, decorative areas, and landscaping.
- Maintains playgrounds, bike paths, sidewalks, and trails.
- Performs mowing, weed control, seeding, watering, turf maintenance, and landscape maintenance functions.
- Maintains sports fields; prepares fields for play.
- Prunes trees and shrubs; assists with tree planting and extraction.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems; troubleshoots, identifies, and resolves problems; researches and evaluates irrigation products for purchases.
- Assists with snow removal operations.
- Locates underground utilities.
- Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment as well as hand and power tools; maintains and repairs tools and equipment.
- Cleans restrooms, shops, break areas, and other facilities.
- Directs the work of seasonal personnel; prioritizes and directs work; ensures effectiveness and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Creates and updates work orders; completes reports.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of parks and grounds maintenance principles and practices.
- Knowledge of playground maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of athletic field maintenance principles.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in the use of a variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.

- Skill in interpersonal relations.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Parks Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include OSHA regulations, plumbing codes, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of city parks. Successful performance in this position contributes to provision of safe and well-maintained parks for use by the general public.

- Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, motivate persons, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
- Possession of or obtain within six (6) months of employment and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the State of Wyoming.
