    The Forging Engineer plays a key role in supporting and advancing forging operations across Ellwood Crankshaft Group. This position focuses on forging process evaluation and optimization, die and tooling development, quality improvement, troubleshooting, and the development of standardized manufacturing practices.

    The Forging Engineer will work closely with production, engineering, quality, and other ECG facilities to improve product flow, quality, efficiency, and overall forging capabilities.

    Responsibilities

    • Evaluate and optimize forging processes, including die design, tooling development, and repair activities.
    • Support forge quality and continuous improvement by troubleshooting quality issues and developing and maintaining in-process quality inspections.
    • Identify and eliminate obstacles affecting product flow, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
    • Lead forging design reviews across ECG facilities for new and complex components and significant process changes.
    • Document design review results and ensure open action items are addressed and resolved.
    • Develop, maintain, and standardize clear work instructions for production positions.
    • Identify opportunities to maximize ECG capabilities and drive continuous improvement across facilities.
    • Build positive working relationships and provide timely communication regarding department performance, priorities, and employee needs.
    • Lead or participate in engineering and operational projects as assigned.
    • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as needed.

    Requirements

    • Four-year degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.
    • Minimum of three years of forging experience.
    • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and associated controls.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD, FEA, DEFORM, SolidWorks, or comparable modeling/engineering software.
    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
    • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to balance development projects and daily operational responsibilities.
    • Results-oriented with a strong drive to succeed.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Familiarity with forging processes, tooling components, and quality systems is preferred.
    • DEFORM proficiency is preferred.
    • Experience with forging design, combustion and induction heating, Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping, Theory of Constraints, and manufacturing planning is preferred.
