Forklift Operator

Alsip, IL

 

Compensation Includes

  • Starting Pay Rate of $19.06/hour

Overview

The Forklift / Material Handler has the responsibility of bringing raw materials safely to production floor and taking finished products back to the warehouse or loading them onto transfer trailers. This position reports directly to the Materials Manager/Shift Supervisor.

 

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to operate forklift and perform daily inspections
  • Must be aware of and follow all safety policies, including use of personal protective equipment, housekeeping, hazardous materials, etc.
  • Must be able to interface with all departments concerning the timely distribution of materials to production and movement of materials FROM production such as all boxes, pallets, finished food, roll stock etc.
  • Must be able to load and unload trucks
  • Any paperwork must be prepared timely and accurately and turned into the warehouse manager before end of shift
  • Load and put away product safely and efficiently
  • Operate forklift/clamp truck safely
  • Supply all necessary materials to all running lines for continuous production- roll stock, pallets etc.
  • Operate Compactor, bailer, shrink wrap machine
  • Assist in coverage of breaks
  • Normal housekeeping duties, trash removal, moping
  • Miscellaneous duties as directed by department manager or supervisor
  • Complete trailer transfer sheets for each trailer loaded accurately
  • Assist with all warehouse inventories as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must qualify for forklift license / certification on site
  • Recommend prior one year experience driving a forklift, but can be waived with demonstrated proficiency
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision after the initial training period is completed. Typically training will be on the job training under the mentoring of the shift supervisor and train the trainer
  • Normal Dexterity Required
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. Infrequently
  • Good attendance and punctuality required
  • Ability to work well in a team environment & motivate other within the team
