M. Scott Welch and silent partner Don Kindt established Welch Packaging as Elkhart Container in 1985. At that time, the business had four associates, a handful of commitments from local prospects and a few pieces of basic converting equipment – a slitter, a flexo press, a taper/gluer and a delivery truck. With a strong commitment to customers, customized relationships and reinvestment in the business… Elkhart Container was established. As a core strategy, Mr. Welch bought Mr. Kindt's share of the business in 1988. In 1994, the company made its first acquisition when it bought local competitor Pulp Products. That acquisition was the beginning of another core strategy – growth through strategic acquisitions. The business has executed an acquisition per year for over 15 years. Today, Welch has 8 geographic locations and over 600 associates. The Service Promise, customer focus and entrepreneurial spirit of Welch Packaging, along with its commitment to associates and community, position the company to be one of the country's most dynamic packaging resources for years to come.
