Forklift Operator
The Forklift Operator is responsible for performing material handling tasks within the plant and warehouse to support machine production schedules, finished product shipping and recycling/waste removal activities. The Forklift Operator will stage, load and unload finished product raw materials. This role is also responsible for stocking and maintaining the warehouse inventory. Continuously supports Sofidel's Employee Personal Practice Policy.
Essential Functions:
- Support Sofidel America's Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace.
- Maintain forklift driving certification for Single Forks, Double-Wide, Box-Clamp, Roll-Clamp, and Bale Clamp.
- Conduct regular forklift inspections per required instruction list. Complete mandatory logs and documents.
- Charge batteries and change propane cylinders.
- Operate stretch wrap machine and understand the HU label process.
- Monitor raw-materials, finished goods and waste products at all lines.
- Deliver and Remove raw-materials, finished goods and waste products in a safe and timely manner.
- Band parent rolls cores and put them in the correct recycling or customer return trailers.
- Load and unload goods with the forklifts within the systematic guidelines.
- Stage loads, print, apply product labels and verify all loads to the loading documents.
- Service and support all Machine employee requests.
- Operate balers for towel and tissue broke, cardboard and poly.
- Operate trash compactors for waste disposal.
- Maintain safe and clean working environments by manually picking up waste paper and other materials.
- Provide on the job training to new employees as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Duties May Include:
- Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
- Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules by keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Participate in any variety of meetings in which direct supervisor requires attendance.
Tools and Equipment Used: Employee will use computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual office equipment.
Education/Experience: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Prior experience preferred, but not necessarily required in unique circumstances. Possess basic computer skills.
Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Work Environment: Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
