Lumber Yard Forklift Operator Job Description

Position Summary
The Lumber Yard Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating forklifts to move, load, unload, and organize lumber and building materials within the yard or warehouse. This role supports daily operations by ensuring materials are handled efficiently, accurately, and safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate sit-down forklift to transport lumber, plywood, and building materials

• Load and unload trucks according to shipping and receiving schedules

• Stack, stage, and organize materials in designated yard locations

• Verify product quantities and inspect materials for damage

• Assist customers or drivers with material pick-up when required

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

• Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures

• Perform daily forklift inspections and report maintenance issues

Qualifications

• Previous forklift operating experience required (lumber yard preferred)

• Ability to safely handle long, heavy, or oversized materials

• Basic math and inventory counting skills

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Strong attention to safety and detail

• Reliable attendance and punctuality

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs (team lift for heavier items)

• Stand, walk, bend, and climb throughout shift

• Work in outdoor and warehouse environments

Schedule & Work Environment

• Full-time, day shift (schedule may vary by location)

• Fast-paced lumber yard setting

• PPE required (steel-toe boots, safety vest, etc.)

• Weekly Pay of $19.00-$21.00 per hour

• Day Shift, 07:00 am to 4:00 pm

• Day Shift 09:00 am- 6:00 pm
