Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a full-stack, embedded engineering role at a software holding company that acquires and grows vertical market software businesses. The Forward Deployed Engineer goes directly into portfolio companies, learns how they operate, identifies the highest-leverage workflow opportunities for agentic software, and ships those systems into live production end-to-end. This is not a consulting or advisory position; you own the outcome from first integration through stable handoff.

The ideal candidate has 3 to 6 years of full-stack and customer-facing engineering experience, has shipped real production LLM or agentic systems (with evals and autonomy gating, not demos), and knows how to earn trust with non-technical operators quickly. You read a P&L as comfortably as a codebase, and you bring learnings back to the central team in the form of reusable playbooks that make every future deployment faster.

Key Responsibilities

1. Embed with portfolio companies to understand their operating model, earn operator trust, and identify the two to three highest-leverage workflow opportunities for agentic software
2. Build integrations, prompts, evals, and UI surfaces to land the first agentic loop at each portfolio company using the core platform
3. Operate and tune deployed systems post-launch, adjusting autonomy tiers and handing off cleanly to portfolio operations teams once stable
4. Serve as the technical face of the holding company to portfolio general managers, building trust, setting expectations, and ensuring each system is seen as their leverage
5. Translate business problems into technical wedges and communicate tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
6. Bring deployment patterns back to the central team and codify learnings into reusable playbooks that accelerate future rollouts across the same vertical
7. Travel domestically 2 to 3 days per week to portfolio company sites as needed

Required Skills & Experience

• 3 to 6 years of experience in full-stack, customer-facing software or product engineering, or forward deployed engineering
• Full-stack proficiency: TypeScript or Python on the backend, React on the frontend, SQL
• Shipped production LLM or agentic software with evals, autonomy gating, and outcome tracking
• Prior embedded or customer-facing engineering experience such as forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or a deploy-and-operate model
• Ability to read a P&L and translate business problems into technical solutions
• Strong stakeholder communication skills with non-technical operators and general managers
• Based in or willing to relocate to New York, NY; comfortable with frequent domestic travel

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Iceberg, or event-driven systems
• Familiarity with agentic workflow design and autonomy tier frameworks
• Experience codifying deployment learnings into team-wide playbooks or runbooks
• Background working within a portfolio or multi-company operating environment
