AI Product Engineer/Forward Deployed Engineer
Location: Remote, North America preferred (San Francisco or Austin) | London also considered
Salary: $140,000 - $180,000 Base + Competitive Equity
About the Role
A fast-growing, YC-backed AI company is looking for an AI Product Engineer / Forward Deployed Engineer to build and ship customer-facing products while working directly with enterprise customers.
This is a high-ownership role for an early-career engineer who enjoys moving quickly, solving ambiguous problems, and working across both product and engineering. You'll work directly with technical stakeholders at enterprise customers to understand their needs, prototype solutions, and turn successful customer-specific solutions into scalable product capabilities.
You'll own features end-to-end — from discovery and prototyping through development, launch, and iteration — with roughly a 50/50 split between customer interaction and hands-on engineering. This is an opportunity to join a small, senior-heavy team building critical infrastructure for the rapidly growing voice AI ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with enterprise customers and technical teams to understand their challenges, workflows, and product requirements
- Own product features end-to-end, from customer discovery and prototyping through development, launch, and iteration
- Build across both frontend and backend to deliver customer-facing products and features
- Support enterprise proofs-of-concept and post-sales customer engagements as a highly technical partner
- Translate complex customer feedback into reusable platform capabilities and scalable product solutions
- Quickly solve customer-specific problems while identifying opportunities to productize those solutions
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and customers to prioritize and ship high-impact work
- Use AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude, and Codex as a core part of your development workflow
- Help shape product and engineering practices within a rapidly scaling startup environment
- Travel approximately 10-20% for customer visits, conferences, and team offsites
What We're Looking For
- 0-3 years of experience as a Product Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Founder
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Python with the ability to independently build and own production code
- Experience building customer-facing products across frontend and backend
- Strong product and design instincts, with the ability to turn ambiguous customer requests into clear, shippable solutions
- Comfortable working directly with technical stakeholders, particularly engineers and technical decision-makers
- An AI-native development workflow with hands-on daily experience using tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Codex
- Strong ability to move quickly, operate with limited direction, and make decisions in an ambiguous startup environment
- Customer-oriented mindset with a willingness to spend significant time understanding and solving real customer problems
- Bachelor's degree from one of the specified target universities
- Willingness to work in a highly collaborative, fast-moving startup environment
