Under the supervision of the Director, Foundation Accounting, the Foundation Accountant serves as the primary accountant for the Tyler Junior College Foundation, exercising independent judgment and discretion in planning and carrying out the duties of the job. This role ensures accurate processing of contributions, accounts payable, financial record maintenance and reporting, while also assisting with audit preparation.Perform and maintain assigned Foundation accounting functions in accordance with Foundation guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles.Perform general Foundation accounting functions such as processing invoices for payment, monitoring receivables, preparing bank account reconciliations, and processing weekly bank deposits.Assist with the creation and maintenance of internal control structures to preserve the integrity of financial transactions and the appropriate presentation of activity in the financial statements.Prepare monthly schedules and reports, including financial statements and activity reports.Prepare the month-end and year-end closing journal entries, making adjustment journal entries as necessary. Review and post journal entries to the general ledger. Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to the subsidiary ledgers and externally-provided statements. Maintain monthly financial records.Assist with the fulfillment of information requests for the annual external audit and the annual Form 990 preparation, including the preparation of supporting schedules and reports.Assist in creating and monitoring the foundation budget to ensure responsible utilization of financial resources.Support the Foundation's scholarship award process, including confirmation of restricted account earnings, preparation of schedules and projections used for awarding and investment decisions, as well as monitoring awarded funds to ensure compliance. Notify appropriate Foundation and Scholarship personnel of variances.Monitor Foundation grant activity, prepare related financial reports.Assist with annual federal and state reporting requirements, including 1099 reporting and the state non-profit report.Assist with preparation of special reports, including gathering data for annual Foundation and Advancement benchmarking surveys.Provide support to the Director, Foundation Accounting, the Chief Business Officer, and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement/Executive Director of the Foundation with other Foundation and accounting-related duties as assigned.CompetenciesKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and best practices.Knowledge of accounting software and functions.Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word/Excel.Ability to support the accounting for multiple financial accounts.Ability to maintain confidentiality of office information.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to interact professionally and tactfully with people of different levels of education, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences, and to exhibit an adequate level of respect to fellow employees and the College community at large.Ability to handle multiple detail-oriented tasks simultaneously and work independently.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesIndividual ContributorWork EnvironmentNormal working hours are Monday through Friday.
