JOB DESCRIPTION

This posting is for the 2026-2027 school year and will begin in Fall 2026. Position will be hired after MavWorks is awarded (application opens July 15, 2026).

JOB OVERVIEW CMU Foundation and Alumni & Career Services (ACS) are seeking an energetic, creative and reliable student to serve as a Marketing Specialist. This role is ideal for a student interested in storytelling, digital strategy, content creation and a future in marketing. You’ll work with a dynamic team to support the communication needs of the Foundation and Alumni and Career Services, building real-world experience in marketing, alumni and donor engagement and event promotion.

Note: This position requires Work Study or MavWorks eligibility.

WHAT YOU'LL DOYou’ll support the development and execution of marketing campaigns and event promotion for both CMU Foundation and ACS. Specific duties may include:

  • Creating content for social media, email and web platforms
  • Assisting with the planning and rollout of student, alumni and donor communications, including planning social media activities such as alumni takeovers and managing content for the alumni newsletter 
  • Capturing live campus events (photography, social media coverage, etc.)
  • Supporting campaign execution in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (email automations, journeys, segmentation, etc.)
  • Conducting research/surveys and analyzing campaign performance
  • Collaborating across campus teams to align messaging with CMU brand strategy
  • Representing CMU Foundation and ACS in a professional, helpful and enthusiastic manner

  • You are detail-oriented and able to work within the parameters of project guidelines while meeting deadlines

  • You are collaborative and overly communicative — you’re not afraid to ask questions or raise concerns

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong writing, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Familiarity with platforms like Canva, Adobe Express and social media tools
  • Interest in marketing, digital communications, branding or storytelling
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of marketing concepts, consumer behavior, social media and digital marketing
  • Reliable, organized and professional in appearance and behavior
  • Must be a current CMU undergraduate student in good academic standing
  • Work Study or MavWorks award required

TRAINING & TEAM EXPECTATIONS Student Marketing Specialists are part of the broader ACS student team and will receive training at the beginning of the semester, along with ongoing mentorship and team meetings. You’ll be expected to uphold a high level of professionalism and represent both departments with integrity.

COMPENSATIONStarting hourly rate: $15.16/hourMust have Work Study or MavWorks award (check “Financial Aid Offers” in MAVzone)
