Founding Engineer (Applied AI)

About the Role

This is a founding engineering role at an early-stage AI startup applying computer vision and large language models to automate blueprint analysis and cost estimation in construction. You'll own the intelligence layer — building and shipping CV/ML systems that real users rely on — as a core member of a small, high-impact team.

What You'll Do

• Drive R&D and development on the intelligence layer, not the application layer.

• Apply cutting-edge computer vision, LLM, and AI systems to real construction workflows.

• Ship working prototypes quickly, then iterate based on direct user feedback.

What We're Looking For

• Hands-on applied CV/ML experience with Python, machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision.

• Demonstrated 0-to-1 builder who has shipped AI to production.

• Growth mindset — you prioritize trajectory and learning over credentials.

• Clear, empathetic communicator who is honest about what's working and what isn't.

• Comfortable doing "schlep" work — whatever it takes to move an early-stage product forward.

• US citizenship required (no visa sponsorship available).

• Bonus: experience building a product people used or paid for (founder or early startup experience).

• Bonus: background in construction or construction technology.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary $120,000 – $180,000 USD annually. Equity offered as part of the founding team package. No visa sponsorship available.

Location

On-site, full-time in San Francisco, CA. Candidates must be based in SF or willing to relocate.
