Founding Engineer

We’re hiring a Founding Engineer to help architect and scale a next-generation AI-powered product from early traction to millions of users.

This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, enjoys solving hard technical problems, and wants significant ownership over product and infrastructure decisions from day one.

You’ll work directly with the founder to define technical direction, build core systems, and establish engineering best practices as the company scales.

What You’ll Do

• Lead architecture and technical decision-making across the platform
• Build and scale highly reliable consumer-grade web applications
• Own critical infrastructure, backend systems, and developer workflows
• Design systems that support rapid product iteration and long-term scalability
• Diagnose and resolve production issues end-to-end
• Improve application reliability, observability, and performance
• Work closely with product and leadership to shape the technical roadmap

Requirements

Experience

• 8+ years of experience shipping production software
• Experience at a high-growth startup that scaled significantly in users and infrastructure
• Previously worked as an early engineering hire at a startup or joined a company during its early growth phase
• Proven experience owning production incidents from detection through postmortem
• Experience building and scaling consumer or prosumer web applications, including mobile web experiences

Technical Skills

Frontend & Product Engineering

• Strong production experience with:
  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Next.js (App Router)
• Deep understanding of mobile web reliability and browser edge cases, especially iOS Safari

Backend & Infrastructure

• Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including:
  • online migrations
  • partitioning
  • query optimization
  • large-scale production databases
• Experience with distributed job and queue systems such as:
  • SQS
  • Temporal
  • BullMQ
  • Inngest
  • or equivalent technologies

AI & Integrations

• Experience building AI-powered applications using OpenAI and/or Anthropic
• Familiarity with:
  • prompt optimization
  • model routing
  • batching
  • latency and cost optimization
• Experience integrating third-party platforms and APIs including payments, communications, storage, and transcription services

Reliability & Observability

• Strong operational mindset with experience using tools such as:
  • Sentry
  • PostHog
  • structured logging platforms
• Experience defining SLIs/SLOs and improving production visibility before customer impact occurs

Nice to Have

• Experience in voice, transcription, or AI-native products
• Familiarity with real-time systems, audio processing, or streaming infrastructure
• Experience scaling products from early-stage through rapid growth.
