This role is fully remote and open to candidates located within two hours of Paris time.

Team

Cortex is a small, agile studio creating elegant puzzle games designed to sharpen the mind and offer a meaningful alternative to brain rot. Our first product, The Almanac, is already enjoyed by thousands of players.

You will join the founding team and work closely with product and engineering, with direct ownership and a major influence on the studio's visual identity.

Role

As Founding Game Artist, you will own the visual production of Cortex's games from start to finish. Working alongside the Studio Director, you will shape the art direction, design the UI, create 2D/3D assets, produce animations and VFX, and integrate everything directly into Unity.

This is a highly hands-on role for a versatile artist who can take a visual idea from its first exploration to a polished experience running in the game.

• Define and evolve the visual identity of Cortex's games

• Design clear and polished gameplay, onboarding, progression, and monetization interfaces

• Create and adapt production-ready 2D and 3D assets

• Design and implement animations, transitions, VFX, and visual feedback that improve clarity and game feel

• Integrate and polish screens and assets directly in Unity

• Prototype quickly and iterate with product and engineering

• Maintain visual quality, consistency, and mobile performance across the entire experience

Profile

• Advanced hands-on experience with Unity, including UI, animation, particles, materials, and asset integration

• Strong command of Blender, Maya, or an equivalent 3D production tool

• Strong animation skills in 2D, 3D, or ideally both

• Strong 2D game art and UI skills using Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent tools

• Good understanding of real-time production constraints and mobile optimization

• Able to troubleshoot visual implementation independently and collaborate effectively with developers

• A generalist background, ideally developed across mobile games, independent studios, creative production, or small teams

• Founder mentality: proactive, pragmatic, hands-on, and ownership-driven

• Fluent in English
