POSITION: FRC Child Care Assistant
The Putnam Family Resource Center (FRC) is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and compassionate Full-Time Child Care Assistant to join our dedicated team. This is a 12-month position (50 weeks per year, 40 hours per week) providing hands-on care, educational support, and a safe, nurturing environment for preschool children.
Putnam Public Schools offers a strong, collaborative culture of caring educators who leverage resources to nurture and challenge our students. The FRC provides a dynamic public-school environment that offers hands-on experience in early childhood education and student support.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional & Educational Support: Assist in preparing and delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning activities and routines for young children.
Classroom Management: Support the Head Teacher in maintaining a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment.
Social-Emotional Growth: Guide and encourage children's individual social and emotional development through positive reinforcement and active engagement.
Individual Support: Provide tailored, one-on-one assistance to children needing extra learning or behavioral support.
Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively as part of a team alongside staff, administrators, and families to foster a supportive learning environment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment OR at least 60 college credits from an accredited institution.
Child Development Associate (CDA) is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young children, showing patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Ability to follow directions from certified staff, maintain a high degree of professionalism, and ensure confidentiality at all times.
START DATE: Starting 2026-2027 school year
RATE OF PAY: $19.69 - $21.72 per hour (based on educational requirements)
BENEFITS: This 12-month position offers single health and dental coverage through the Connecticut State Partnership Plan 2.0, board-provided life insurance, paid time off, and access to the town pension plan.
